What is Tartan Day?
On April 6, 1320 the Declaration of Arbroath was signed asserting Scotland’s sovereignty over England’s territorial claims. Tartan Day commemorates the signing of Scotland’s Declaration of Independence. This day is set aside every year by Scottish-Americans to reflect on and celebrate their heritage.
On March 20, 1998, the US Senate Resolution 155 was passed declaring April 6th as National Tartan Day. Throughout the country, there are festivals and parades celebrating this day.
